The University of Newcastle is seeking to appoint an exceptional leader as its next Director, People and Workforce Strategy to contribute directly to achieving the objectives outlined in the University’s 2025 vision.

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the Director will drive the development, implementation and delivery of HR support, representing the University at a senior level and maximising its reputation and profile. As a strategic business partner, the Director will develop, implement and review HR policies and strategies; manage and mentor HR staff; and lead by example in developing core client advisory relationships to provide high level advice, service and support to all clients and key stakeholders.

With relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive HR experience at a senior level, the successful candidate will have the leadership skills to provide a coordinated and client-focused service across all the functional areas of HR, ensuring the currency and compliance of policies and procedures. The appointee will be experienced in the development of workforce planning strategies in response to changes in the delivery of higher education services and the changing demographics of the workforce. Results-focused and values-driven, the ideal candidate will have superior interpersonal skills, excellent analytical, problem-solving and management skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with a broad range of people.
