The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is seeking to appoint an exceptionally talented leader to become its new Chief Executive Officer and drive the strategy of this prestigious Medical College. The successful candidate will uphold the College’s record and reputation of being the lead advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and New Zealand.

Reporting to a governing Council comprised of respected College Fellows, the CEO will lead, manage and build the organisation’s capacity to advocate on behalf of the profession and deliver programs and services that enhance the profession’s standards of excellence. The CEO will oversee the day to day management of the College and will be accountable for driving and delivering key strategic priorities as agreed with Council. This will require a visionary leader who can translate strategy into practice and who is comfortable proposing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Presenting with exemplary interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, the successful candidate will be a highly experienced leader who has the proven ability to advocate diplomatically, build effective partnerships and foster a collaborative culture within a complex organisation. A developed understanding of corporate governance is essential along with exceptional business acumen, an innovative outlook and a commitment to accountability and transparency. Familiarity with the health sectors in Australia and New Zealand is required. Experience as a senior manager in the medical education or academic sector is advantageous as is experience within a complex membership based organisations. This position is based in Melbourne.
